IonQ +20%. D-Wave +16%. Rigetti +11%. The Super-Cycle Is Back.

World Quantum Day delivered. Hard.

IonQ rang the closing bell at the NYSE this afternoon and dropped two bombshells before doing it. D-Wave's CEO went on the offensive against Nvidia. And the entire sector posted its best day in months.

This is what a catalyst looks like.

IonQ Just Changed the Game. Twice.

IonQ announced two breakthroughs this morning that explain why the stock ripped 20%.

First, a major DARPA contract. Details are limited, but government quantum contracts at this level signal that IonQ's technology has moved past the research phase into strategic infrastructure territory. DARPA doesn't write checks for science projects.

Second, the first-ever photonic connection between two commercial quantum computers. This is the quantum networking breakthrough the industry has been chasing. Connecting quantum machines expands their power exponentially. IonQ just proved it can be done commercially, not just in a lab.

CEO Niccolo de Masi rang the NYSE closing bell this afternoon with the University of Maryland team, capping off a day that put quantum computing on the front page of every financial terminal in the world.

D-Wave's CEO to Nvidia: "You Should Be Shaking in Your Boots"

Alan Baratz didn't hold back today.

In a conference appearance timed to World Quantum Day, the D-Wave CEO made the case that quantum computing is coming for Nvidia's lunch. The argument centers on energy efficiency. Training AI models on GPUs requires staggering amounts of power. Quantum annealing, D-Wave's approach, delivers results at a fraction of the energy cost.

Whether the market buys the comparison long-term is debatable. But today? QBTS closed up nearly 16%. Someone's listening.

Nvidia Joins the Party with "Ising"

Nvidia announced Ising, the world's first family of open-source quantum AI models. The timing wasn't an accident. World Quantum Day brought the entire ecosystem out.

This is Nvidia hedging its bets. If quantum takes share from GPUs in optimization and AI workloads, Nvidia wants a seat at the table. For quantum pure-plays, Nvidia's entry validates the market they've been building.

The Bottom Line

World Quantum Day started as a marketing exercise. Today it became a market event.

IonQ delivered real news with real implications. D-Wave's CEO picked a public fight with the most valuable company in tech. Nvidia validated the entire sector by launching quantum AI tools. And Google put a Doodle on the homepage for 4 billion people to see.

24/7 Wall Street is already asking: "Is the quantum super-cycle back in full force?"

Today's answer: Yes.
